Lovely essay, Charulatha. "“Hiraeth“ – a deep longing for something, most often existing only in one’s imagination." - so many of our memories are of this kind.
What a fantastic read to begin the morning with. Each verse peels back a new layer of emotions. The moment you asked for rain songs last week, I had a hunch a new piece on rain was brewing.
It’s been raining non-stop here in Switzerland for the past three days, and I’ve taken to singing on my balcony each evening and always Tagore, and surprisingly none of the songs I shared with you. I wonder why?
No matter how many new flavours we try to bring into our lives, it is ultimately Tagore who offers comfort, almost instinctively. Thank you for writing this and reminding us of the quiet familiarity of Tagore we might overlook while chasing novelty.
You absorb, encourage others to share, listen and then add to your thoughts. Lovely.
Thank you Tulika
